From the quiet, friendly town of Loreto on the Sea of Cortez,
we will travel up, down and across the scenic Baja peninsula
to collect a surprising variety of shells including spectacular
murex and huge bivalves. Shell by wading, rock turning, and beach
walking and sleep in a modest hotel with view of the water.

Loreto is an unspoiled small town right on the Sea of Cortez with friendly,
smiling people. It's fun to come to the Malecon (street by the water) on
weekend evenings and watch people walk and talk.
Most tourists come to see whales (but usually not there in December)
or fish or scuba dive the marine park (which we will avoid because of
shelling restrictions).
Baja California is desert country, and surprisingly beautiful,
with myriad forms of cactus and hidden blossoms. There are bays
with white sand beaches, rocky shores, and muddy harbors all offering
a variety of shells. Each day we will drive to visit a different beach
or bay.
Here and there are fishing areas where you find piles of shells discarded after the animals have been removed for food. More than one visitor needed to purchase an additional suitcase to bring shells home!
Our rooms will be comfortable and commodious,
restaurants varied and good. There will be stores where you can buy
bottled water and groceries
plus bleach and alcohol for your shells. There are several nice souvenir
shops selling handicrafts from all over Mexico. English is at least
understood in most shops and restaurants, and U.S. dollars are welcome.
